On March 4th 2010, we changed the way we make RapidWeaver themes with our first slide show enabled smart theme, Flavorite. Then on May 21st 2010, we launched Havnit with a cooler slide show and a smarter layout. Now today we are releasing an awesome update to Flavorite that will make it smarter, better, faster and stronger.

It’s been our intention to give Flavorite a major overhaul since the release of Havnit. We got the ball rolling on “smart” features in Flavorite but it was the work we did on Havnit that really put those ideas where we wanted them to be.

Smarter

Now with “smart navigation” and “smart layout”, Flavorite cleans up the source code and the user interface by being smarter.

Smart navigation generates only one block of navigation code, but efficiently distributes the sub navigation components to their designated areas. The end result is a multi-tiered navigation system with much cleaner, more semantic code.

With smart layout, you no longer need to use the option panel to turn bits of the layout on or off, like an empty sidebar, footer or ExtraContent areas. Flavorite has a smart layout, smart enough to detect which portions of the site you are using and enable that part of the layout for you.

Better

Flavorite was the first ever RapidWeaver theme with a built in, user selectable slide show banner. After continually developing the built in slide shows over two theme and nearly three months, we got something pretty awesome working by the time we released Havnit. So it was only natural that we would put that same slide show into Flavorite.

We have rebuilt the Flavorite slide show to be exactly like Havnit’s, with 6 different sequences and selectable duration, effect and transition speed options. This also means that we’ve added 10 additional custom headers, ready to use with RWmultitool.

Faster

We’ve made Flavorite considerably faster. We’ve drastically reduced the number of HTTP requests, we’ve removed large, rarely used files, we’re now using content delivery networks for ubiquitous libraries, we’ve fine tunes our programs, and we’ve trimmed and tweaked every bit of source code that we could to improve Flavorites performance.

Flavorite should now sing along quickly in any browser you view it in, including Internet Explorer.

Stronger

With an nod to future standards, we’ve strengthened Flavorite by converting effects to CSS3 that were previously generated using JavaScript. This improves speed but most importantly it increases stability. We have also converted Flavorite from the rather merciless XHTML to the more stable, more forgiving HTML5, all while keeping with XHTML’s best coding practices.

And Everything It Ever Was

All of these intelligent features are included at no expense to the variety of other great and flexible features like layout width, header heights, variable width sidebar, and fonts galore. In fact, the advanced features in Flavorite are actually aware of each other and their standard feature counterparts.

The best part for you is that it looks and acts the same as any other RapidWeaver theme we’ve made. It just works for you … intelligently.
